          Miss Margaret Lehane died Monday vening at Bellevue Hospital, New York, after two weeks' illness. The body will be brought to the home of her sister, Mrs. Edward Verriker, 64 South View street in charge of Undertaker Arthur J. Lunny, and the funeral will take place tomorrow morning to St. Francis Xavier church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, the time to be announced later.
          Miss Lehane was a resident of this city for some time and was well known here. She leaves three sisters, Mrs. Edward Verriker, Mrs. Mary Blinn, and Miss Catherine Lehane, of this city, and four brothers, Patrick of New York and Edward, Decklan (sic) and James of Ireland.

           Edmund Lehane was born on 7 June 1878 at Kilmore, Clashmore, County Waterford, Ireland..1,2 He was baptized on 9 June 1878 at Clashmore Church, Clashmore Parish, County Waterford, Ireland. He was baptized by the Reverend J. Long and sponsors were Henry Coghlan and Mary Coghlan.3
     1898, Edmund joined the Royal Artillery in Cork and ended up as a Battery Sergeant Major (same as an RSM but name relates to artillery battery) in 15 Company Royal Garrison Artillery. His army number is 27424 being at first posted for duty in Cork on 19 April 1898. He retired in 1920 with sciatica brought on by a war wound sustained in France in July 1917. His home address at the time of discharge was 14 Barry Street Derry, Londonderry. He retired with long service and good conduct medals. There are problems recorded with the right foot and the left thigh and he was estimated to have a 20% disability.
He served in a range of pf places including Simla,Malta, Colombo, Trincomali, Hong Kong, Egypt and Carlisle and on the Western Front with the British Expeditionary Force.
An entry in the War casualty form state that Edmond was taken out of the line (advance dugout) unconscious. His daughter, Kathleen's story, was that he woke up in a dressing station run by nuns and thought he was, unexpectedly, in heaven. A death telegram was sent to his mother in Donegal, but he rallied and demanded to return to the line.11
     Edmund Lehane married Mary Caldwell on 20 November 1912 at St. Columba's Waterside, Derry, Ireland. By Denis Quigley (a Catholic canon). Witnesses were Bella Doherty and Reginald Joseph Ryan.12 Edmund Lehane was worked as a commissionaire in John Browns' shipyard at Clydeside, Scotland.12
     Edmund Lehane died in 1954 at Glasgow, Scotland.13,14

Mary's mother and two siblings lived in the same house, probably on a different floor.2 Jeremiah Joseph Phelan was a machinist in June 1900 at Waterbury, Connecticut.2 He was a case maker in December 1903 at Waterbury, Connecticut.12
     Jeremiah Joseph Phelan died on 6 December 1903 at 901 Bank Street, Waterbury, Connecticut, at age 38 from peritonitis lasting 7 days and a contributary cause of exhaustion.13

     Jeremiah Joseph Phelan's funeral was on 8 December 1903. The following article was written in the Waterbury Evening Democrat:

          The funeral of Jeremiah Phelan took place from the family residence on Bank street, with services at St. Patrick's church by Father Sheehan and interment in new St. Joseph's cemetery. The bearers were Andrew Stein, and B. F. Reid, from Court Shields, F. of A; T. F. Conway and Henry Lynch, representing Hendricken council, K. of C; A. I. Broderick and P.F. Courtney, from the New England Watch factory. The floral tributes included a mound from the case department of the New England watch shop; anchor and cross, Hendricken council; pillow marked "Papa", children of the deceased; bouquets, Orrin Beers and family, Harry Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. John Callan. To-day being a holy day arrangements could not have been made for a mass, but the service will be held at a date which will be announced next Sunday.14

     Jeremiah Joseph Phelan was buried on 8 December 1903 at New St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterbury, Connecticut.15,16

     On 7 December 1903, the following obituary was written in the Waterbury Evening Democrat:

          Jeremiah Phelan, aged 37 years, died yesterday afternoon at his home 901 Bank street, after a short illness with peritonitis. He leaves a widow, one son, James F., a daughter, Marguerite, his father, Michael Phelan, and three sisters, Mrs. Edward Spender, Miss Mary Phelan, and Mrs. Joseph Costello, the last named Chicago. He was a member of Court Shields, F. of A., and of Kendricken council, K. of C. The deceased was an employe (sic) of the New England Watch Co and had a wide circle of friends. He was an honest, industrious fellow, cheerful under all conditions and never felt happier than when lending a hand to some who needed assistance. The funeral will take place at 8:30 o'clock to-morrow morning with a mass of requiem at St. Patrick's church and interment in new St. Joseph's cemetery.

James. F. Phelan, 86, of 332 Williamson Circle, died at the Medicare Pavilion Recovery Center Thursday morning after a long illness. He was born in Waterbury, Nov. 23, 1887, son of the late Jeremiah T. and Mary Ellen (Dolan) Phelan and had been a resident of Oakville the past 2 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church. Mr. Phelan was a former tyler of the Waterbury Lodge of Elks, a member of the Old Timers, Sheriden Council, Knights of Columbus and the Old Timers of the Elks. He leaves two daughters; Mrs. Louis Knight of Oakville and Mrs. Leonard Roulier, of East Lyme, 5 grandchildren. Funeral will be held Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemtery, Watertown.9
